چکیده
The existence of triadic resonances in the magnetized spherical Couette system (MSC) is related to development modulated rotating waves, which are quasiperiodic flows understood terms bifurcation theory systems with symmetry. In contrast previous studies geometry resonant modes not inertial waves but radial jet instability strongly equatorially antisymmetric. We propose a general framework generated through successive Hopf bifurcations from base state. study relies on an accurate frequency analysis different flow, for solutions belonging two scenarios. azimuthal and latitudinal nonlinear coupling among analysed interpreted using harmonics results compared geometry.

Driven inertial waves in spherical Couette flow.
Dynamo action in the cores of planets and stars gives rise to their magnetic fields. We explore spherical Couette flows in liquid sodium as a laboratory model of the Earth’s core. Below, we image various spatiotemporal magnetic-field modes present in spherical Couette flows. Our apparatus is comprised of two independently driven rotating spheres, radii 20 and 60 cm, with sodium filling the gap ...

We present measurements performed in a spherical shell filled with liquid sodium, where a 74-mm-radius inner sphere is rotated while a 210-mm-radius outer sphere is at rest. The inner sphere holds a dipolar magnetic field and acts as a magnetic propeller when rotated. In this experimental setup called "Derviche Tourneur Sodium" (DTS), direct measurements of the velocity are performed by ultraso...

The dynamics and bifurcations of convective waves in rotating and buoyancy-driven spherical Rayleigh-Bénard convection are investigated numerically. The solution branches that arise as rotating waves (RWs) are traced by means of path-following methods, by varying the Rayleigh number as a control parameter for different rotation rates. The dependence of the azimuthal drift frequency of the RWs o...
متن کاملConvection in Rotating Spherical Fluid Shells
Convection driven by thermal buoyancy in rotating spherical bodies of fluid has long been recognized as a fundamental process in the understanding of the properties of planets and stars. Since these objects are rotating in general and since their evolution is associated with the transport of heat from their interiors convection influenced by the Coriolis force does indeed play a dominant role i...

Modulated rotating waves (MRW), bifurcated from the thermal-Rossby waves that arise at the onset of convection of a fluid contained in a rotating spherical shell, and their stability, are studied. For this purpose, Newton-Krylov continuation techniques are applied. Nonslip boundary conditions, an Ekman number E=10^{-4}, and a low Prandtl number fluid Pr=0.1 in a moderately thick shell of radius...
